Lemony Sardine Salad

Delicious Sardines in Organic Olive Oil from Spain

One of my favorite recipes Sardine Salad for your bones with a refreshing lemon flavor.

Oily fish is a superfood and sardines are the unsung heroes of this group. They are rich in selenium and calcium and are an excellent source of omega-3s. They are high in EPA and DHA which are essential fatty acids that perform a multitude of tasks inside your body, including stopping inflammation at a cellular level, breaking down fat cells, and maintaining a healthy hormonal balance.

Prunes For Your Bones

Prunes for your bones

Eating prunes for your bones can help prevent or delay bone loss by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress. My prune blog offers two delightful recipes.

Skelly and I spend a lot of time trying to get the word out about strong bones and how to feed them.  But a lot of women we meet don’t give their bones a second thought – until it’s too late.

Easy Way to Support Gut and Bone Health

Gut health is at the heart of bone health

How do we support bone health and gut health? Here’s an easy way that only has 3 ingredients; sauerkraut. Let’s dive into this traditional food and all it’s healing qualities.

Your gut is said to contain over 100 trillion microorganisms or “gut flora,” which is more than 10 times the total number of cells in your body [1]

Unpasteurized sauerkraut contains probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria that act as the first line of defense against toxins and harmful bacteria. They can also improve your digestion and overall health.[2, 3, 4]

Bone-loving Creamy Collard Yam Soup

By: | Posted in: Blog, Featured | Friday, Jun 11, 2021 - 10:59am
Collard Yam Soup

This Creamy and (dreamy) Collard Yam Soup is bone-loving and vegan.

Collards are a member of the cruciferous family

Cruciferous veggies are part of the Brassica genus of plants and are rich in vitamins and minerals as shown in the chart below. They contain a group of substances known as glucosinolates, which are sulfur-containing chemicals that may fight cancer.

I love the rich color, taste, and texture of this soup. This “cook-once-eat-twice” will make a fantastic big pot for several servings.

My DXA 2020

DXA test Spine 2020 (1)

My latest DXA and TBS report.  As a reminder, I was diagnosed with osteopenia in 2005 and given a script for Fosamax. I declined.  My intention was to implement my 6 pillars for bone health for a better outcome:

  1. Calcium and mineral rich-foods
  2. Researched supplements (I get my calcium through food)
  3. Weight bearing exercise
  4. Stress reduction
  5. Sleep hygiene
  6. Bringing joy to my everyday

I took my 90 minutes pilgrimage to Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania. DXA during Covid of course had its moments. Masks, temperature testing, hand sanitizer, distancing…we all know the necessary Covid drill.
